There were things omitted and they were moving kind of fast but they seemed to be made for each other. I didn't like Gunner from the beginning because he was doing the most. The way he treated Tyler was crazy and I was ready for her to be done with him. Cruz sure had everyone fooled. Skyler was trifling and sleeping with anyone that showed her some type of affection. She was wrong on so many levels. Ophelia really needs to get her life. I couldn't believe her and Chance were both in their feelings knowing there was no love in their situation. Greek was the truth and didn't hesitate to set things right. I'm hoping things will be alright for Greek, Fiona and Tyler. I can't say I'll feel any type of way concerning Gunner and Skyler because karma has definitely paid them a visit. Hopefully Greek and Fiona's love story will flourish and everything they're experiencing will make their connection stronger.

By ayanna warren wow....the only down fall of this book is I know I will have a bit of a wait for part 2. but honestly i didnt doubt this story bc i have been an avid supporter of Jade Jone and Jaded pubs since day one. Absolutley luv Greek! Honestly...3 characters threw me for a loop. Im not going to name drop bc I dont want to ruin anyone's reading experience. just know....the grass isn't always greener on the other side, loyal is a very rare commodity, & what goes around comes back ten fold!

I'm not going to lie while reading this and realizing it was more than 3 characters point of view i thought to myself I'm going to get the characters confused for sure and that it was going to be so much going on I was going to be left confused in general with the book. BUT MAN WAS I WRONG. I knew exactly what was going on with each character. All characters were developed well. Can't wait for part 2.

Ibsen on the conflict between idealism and practicality By Lawrance Bernabo Henrik Ibsen is the father of modern drama and his 1882 drama "An Enemy of the People" ("En folkefiende") was one of his more controversial works. In the play Dr. Stockmann discovers that the new baths built in his town are infected with a deadly disease that requires they should be closed until they can be repaired. However, the mayor of the town (the Burgomaster), who is Stockmann's brother Peter, rejects the report and refuses to close the baths because it will bring about the financial ruin of the town. When Dr. Stockmann tries to make his case to the people of the town, the mayor counters by pointing out how expensive it would be to repair the baths and dismisses the doctor for having wild, fanciful ideas. At the public meeting Dr. Stockmann is declared "an enemy of the people" by the Burgomaster.To really appreciate this particular Ibsen play you have to look at it in the context of his previous dramas, because they all represent a conflict between the playwright and his critics. In 1879 Ibsen's play "A Doll's House" ("Et dukkehjem") was produced, wherein the character of Nora pretends to be a silly little wife in order to flatter her husband, who is revealed to be a hypocritical fraud. The idea that a woman would leave her husband and children was seen as being outrageous and basically obscene. Ibsen upset his audience and critics even more in his next play, "Ghosts" ("Gengangere"), an 1881 drama that again attacks conventional morality and hypocrisy. The topic is of congenital venereal disease but the true subject is moral contamination. Mrs. Alving has buried her husband, a degenerate who has left behind a son dying from syphilis and an illegitimate daughter who is probably going to end up being a prostitute. The play ends with Mrs. Alving having to decide if she should poison her son to put him out of his misery or let his agonies persist.Again, Ibsen was attacked for outraging conventional morality. The following year after "Ghosts" the playwright responded with "An Enemy of the People" and the character that is most identified with representing Ibsen on stage in Dr. Stockmann. The allegory is quite plain when the play is considered within the context of Ibsen's work during this period, although while Stockmann is portrayed as a victim there is a sense of destructiveness to his behavior. At the end of the play Stockman has decided to leave the town, but then changes his mind to stay and fight for those things he believes are right.As is the case with most of Ibsen's classic works, "An Enemy of the People" speaks to larger issues than those in conflict in the play. The debate is over the bad water pipes at the new baths, but the true conflict is over the clash of private and public morality. Dr. Stockmann is by far the most idealistic of Ibsen's characters, and that fact that he is opposed by his own brother, the Burgomaster, harkens back to Genesis and the fight between Cain and Able. As was the case with "Ghosts," there is an ambiguous ending where what happens next can be seen as going either way given your own inclinations as a member of the audience.Both of the Stockman brothers are flawed. Dr. Stockman's idealism is at odds with the practical realities of the world in which he lives while the Burgomaster ignores ethical concerns. Ultimately, Ibsen is not forcing us to choose between the two but rather to reject both in terms of some middle ground. The Burgomaster is certainly old school, believing those in authority get to make all the decisions and that the people must subordinate themselves to the society. But he was the one who made the mistake of putting the new water pipes in the wrong place, so even his claims that he is looking out for the welfare of the community are dishonest. Dr. Stockman argues for individual freedom and the right of free expression, but his attempt to fix the problem ignores any effort at persuasion or building public support. He also seems to take pleasure in be able to show that his brother made a mistake. Still, in the end we have to favor the doctor over the mayor because his integrity is clearly stronger, while still recognizing that his idealism is tragically flawed.

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Great Play but the Introduction is Lacking By A Customer This powerful play is my first experience reading Henrik Ibsen and WOW! The conflict is timeless and the leading character Dr. Stockmann reminded me of Sir Thomas More.After I read the play I did not want to put the book down and wanted more. I flipped to the front of my edition translated by Christpher Hampton and read his nihilistic introduction. Mr. Hampton missed the whole point and somehow thought Dr. Stockman really WAS the "enemy of the people". Hampton sounded like one of the townspeople from the mob in Act Four when he wrote:"This is to simplify Ibsen's intent; because however sympathetic Ibsen feels towards Dr Stockmann's cause, he is too subtle and profound a dramatist not to know that there are few figures more infuriating than the man who is always right. Stockmann's sincerity, naivety and courage co-exist with an innocent vanity, an inability to compromise and an indifference to the havoc caused in the lives of his family and friends, as well as his own, by his dogged pursuit of principle."Hampton's edition is a nice size with print that is easy to read. I loved the story and the characters and I highly recommend it to all. I have lived the experience and have been "the enemy" so I understood Dr. Stockmann but I learned from Christopher Hampton and my own experience not everyone will "get it."

By Israel Drazin Shaw explores the question whether people should enjoy themselves as best they can or comply with the laws of "respectability" as mandated by society. This is a variation of Shaw's feelings that the Nietzchean concept of the "superman" is correct. There are people who are above the general population because of their intellect and who are not obligated to comply with the rules that were written for the general population to control them from doing harm to themselves and others.Shaw explores this issue in several ways. There are the generational gaps - the different perspectives of life - of Fanny and her father, Margaret and her parents, Bobby and his parents, and the servant Juggins and his family who are dukes and duchesses. There are other situations that raise the issue. Bobby and Margaret are engaged, but realize that they are unfit for one another. How can they comply with society's rules about breaking engagements? Shaw introduces a young man for Margaret and a young woman for Bobby who are interested in having fun, both have questionable character, and all four of them serve time in jail as a result of seeking to have fun. How do they and their parents handle their jail experience? Bobby's and Margaret's parent reconsider whether they have been living a proper life. Shouldn't they have fun as their children have? Did they waste their lives? Additionally, should people follow the requirements of religion as people generally understand them? Aren't they the same as the mandates of society, being developed for the general population and not for the "superman"?The play is a story within a story. The above-described tale was written by Fanny who persuaded her father to have it produced privately before four celebrated critics. Fanny and the critics appear at the beginning and end of Shaw's work, as bookends to the humorous drama about Bobby, Margaret, and the others. Her life, as becomes clear in the second bookmark, mirrors what is in her play. Shaw reveals the views of the four critics about "Fanny's enterprise," and their views are humorous and ridiculous. One of the critics says he thinks the play was written by Shaw and all four make foolish remarks about the great writer.

I could never put a weekly dinner with friends first if my child went missing and can't imagine anyone who ever would, but Shaw gives us a couple so deadened and trapped by tradition and routine that they can't see what really matters anymore, and the other couple is just as bad. We get to see bowing to social pressures at its saddest and most ridiculous in this hilarious look at a serious issue.This story was smart and funny. I loved it and wanted more when it was over. I'll have to buy another one of his books. I just love his style.I can't resist any chance I can get to peek into the mind of a genius, and Shaw was a true genius. This story was delightful and brilliant.It's as thought provoking as it is entertaining.

Shaw attacks conformity with a vengeance and produces a masterpiece. He creates characters, which are the equivalent of parrots and zombies, because they are so bent on fitting in, then adds two outrageous characters to the mix. The result is like throwing a torch on a mountain of gunpowder. (Isn't that always the case when non-conformists begin to rouse the walking dead?)Shaw points out the main danger of social conformity with great style and humor. That main danger is when custom clashes with conscience, and custom wins - when fitting in skews our priorities to the point where we put doing what's expected of us above doing the right thing.George Bernard Shaw created numerous masterpieces over the span of his writing career. He has the distinction of being the only person to ever be awarded both an Oscar and the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was a very humble and conscientious man, a political activist and a vegetarian. His conscientiousness shows in his work by his inability to write meaningless fluff at a time when fluff dominated the stage. His trademark is his classic use of ample humor in dramas with serious subject matter. It takes a special kind of genius to be able to pull that off as flawlessly as he did.This book is excellent. It's as thought provoking as it is entertaining. There are times when you can't help laughing out loud. You'll be better for reading it. His works just have that effect - they both enrich and uplift you.

A Very Interesting Glimpse into Austen: The Writer and The Person By J.E.Robinson This is a collection of short stories, drama, humor, and other works written by Jane Austen at least a decade before her major novels. It is a series of letters and other works that Austen wrote, and they show a free spirited Austen, quite unlike her formula books that came later. As a read this is not what one would call great literature, but it is worthwhile to see a young Jane Austen writing without constraints, and writing as a young woman years before her fame.As background information, I have read all of Austen's novels and I have read various analyses of Austen's work. Jane Austen's formula for success was to write a novel about of a financially disadvantaged young woman who meets and marries a wealthier man. The exception is her novel "Emma" where the protagonist has her own means. There are no axe murderers in an Austen novel or any nasty elements. Her stories take place in small English towns and they all have a variety of characters including a few willful women and usually one male rogue."Pride and Prejudice" is Jane Austen's finest novel. That book is the perfect balance of story, prose, structure, and interesting characters. It evokes many emotional responses in the reader. That novel is among the greatest novels of all time on par with for example Flaubert's "Madame Bovary" or Tolstoy's "Anna Karenina." From a strictly literary point of view, "Mansfield Park" is the most complicated and sophisticated literary work penned by Austen. Many like "Emma" as well.The present work pre-dates her success and one can view it as her practicing her craft or simply developing as a writer. She will surprise most with the amount of humor that she manages to inject into the stories. The stories are short, some less than a page. Also, she has written bits of drama and humorous pieces which are included. I liked her brief humorous descriptions of the various kings and queens of England.Most Austen fans will think the pieces to be very interesting but short. In any case, we see a completely different Austen here, and she writes with few self imposed limits. It is nothing like her later writings which tend to follow a formula.As a note, the text is available free on line at the Gutenberg Project, and since it is so short it can be easily down-loaded.

General Books LLC is an imprint of VDM Publishing, (google them and take a look at the Wikipedia article on them). VDM Publishing publish books that are free of copyright with no editing or quality control. Some quotes from the publishers website will explain more:"We created your book using OCR software that includes an automated spell check. Our OCR software is 99 percent accurate if the book is in good condition. However, with up to 3,500 characters per page, even one percent can be an annoying number of typos....After we re-typeset and designed your book, the page numbers change so the old index and table of contents no longer work. Therefore, we usually remove them. Since many of our books only sell a couple of copies, manually creating a new index and table of contents could add more than a hundred dollars to the cover price....Our OCR software can't distinguish between an illustration and a smudge or library stamp so it ignores everything except type. The product description is misleading for the buyer that's not aware of this publisher.Totally unethical marketing.

This is her early work and is a group of letters. I had a hard time wanting to read it so I could finish it and move on to something else.

I loved the characters I love a ghetto book but was glad it wasn't all about the hood and she didn't leave us hanging for another novel. This had a great ending which is very rare to read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Read By W. Michelle Davis This wasn't e worst book that I read, nor the best however I can say that I enjoyed the story. My reasoning for the three star rating was the lack of background information on this characters. There were times throughout the book that I got the feeling that there was another part that was written prior to this novel with pertinent information for the reader. There were events throughout the book where something WS transpiring but I felt absolutely no emotional connection to the character going their turmoil. For example Kajuan confessed to cheating on Laniyah and she begin to shed tears I was just unable to feel her pain. Again not a bad read but the feeling of emotional unavailability causes the reader, at least this reader to feel somewhat disconnected from all of the characters. Do I recommend? YES!!! Will I try this author again? YES!!!

I have stopped reading series because it takes to long for them to put out follow-up books and I get mad and lose interest. This book was great with just enough of everything to keep you hanging on and wanting more. I loved the support of their friends and their crew. I am glad that Kajuan finally got himself together and La got herself together after really dealing with her mom and letting go of what Eli had done. It was good to catch up on Quan and B and she is a better woman than me for accepting his indiscretion. You will not be disappointed.
